YOUTH SERVICES
'GO FOR IT' PARKOUR WORKSHOPS
Lincoln 25, 26, 27th October 2006
and
'SPORTS OUTREACH' PARKOUR DISPLAY
Lincoln 25th October 2006
Staring
out from her office, Lincoln Youth Worker Kulbir Kaur noticed
a 'young bloke jumping around their car park'.
Turned out that the 'young bloke jumping around' was Stuart
from Lincs Parkour who had taken time out from college to
put the Youth Services car park to better use.
Like most people, Kul had never heard of Parkour but soon
realised during Stuart's interrogation that it could fit pretty
snuggly into a new, upcoming campaign called 'Go For It'.
The program was designed around the half term break as a means
to get the young people of Lincoln into alternative forms
of physical activity.
Stuart also informed Kul of Worldwide JAM's plan to stage
its first official PK workshop in Lincoln. Not one to miss
out on such opportunities Kul immediately contacted WJ to
see if we would get involved.

Coincidentally
Oliver Cullen from 'Sports Outreach Development' was also
looking for a Parkour display to be incorporated into his
'Extreme Sports Day' at the Kesteven Sports Centre. It just
so happened that this event fell on the same day as 'Go For
It's' first PK workshop which would run from Wednesday to
Friday. In one afternoon, Worldwide JAM had found it's first
permanent home for PK workshops and a full itinerary of workshops
for the week.
So for what started out as Stuart PKing around a car park
turned into a Parkour fest for Worldwide JAM and the guys
from Lincs Parkour.
During the 4 hour 'Extreme Sport' demo, Lincs Parkour were
visited by numerous dignitaries representing Lincoln's local
authorities. Dale and the lads stepped up to plate to explain
what Parkour actually is and the far reaching positive effects
it can have on our young people. All the VIP's who attended
admitted that they now had a greater understanding and that
their initial preconception of Parkour had been changed by
the efforts of Lincs Parkour. Mission Completed.
If displaying Parkour for 4 hours wasn't enough to sap their
energy levels, Lincs Parkour also hosted the 'Free' 2 hour
'Go For It', workshop session in the afternoon. 18 students
turned up for the Wednesday session, 24 on the Thursday and
28 on the Friday. Word of mouth was spreading and by Sunday,
Parkour had become well and truly established in Lincoln society.
Everyone at Worldwide JAM would like to thank Kul for her
considerable negotiating skills, (next step 'The Apprentice'),
Oliver Cullen and Ben Jackson for giving us a PK base in Lincoln
and above all, Lincs Parkour. Stuart, Dale, Jim, Ian and Ryan
worked their socks off over the four days and were fantastic
ambassadors for Parkour.
