WORLDWIDE
JAM PARKOUR WORKSHOP
Woking Leisure Centre, Surrey
June 6th
Coaches: Teige, Calum and Ash

Worldwide
JAM returned to Woking Leisure centre on the weekend
to stage the WOKING II Parkour Workshop. With attendance
35% up on the first Woking event last month, it was
obvious that Parkour was beginning to capture the imagination
of young people (and adults) in the region. Over 50%
of the students were from Woking itself and the workshops
also attracted two students who made the trip all the
way from Norfolk.

Parkour workshops form the backbone of Worldwide JAMs
ongoing education strategy teaching the principles and
fundamentals of the discipline to a rapidly growing
global community.
As with WOKING
I, over 90% of the students classified themselves
as beginners, but yet again the Worldwide JAM 'Street
Team' coaches were able to tailor the training accordingly.
The age range for WOKING II was 7-38 years old with
the average student age being 10.93. Compared to the
16.5 average age at WOKING I it shows that more younger
people are wanting to get involved with the worlds fastest
growing sport.

As many who have attended Worldwide JAM Parkour Workshops
in the past will know, our sessions do not concentrate
on technique alone. We are also committed to getting
people to understand how their bodies work and just
how important physical fitness contributes to developing
parkour skills. Increasing fitness and strength can
also help reduce the chances of physical injury.

In
essence Parkour can be seen as a fitness regime designed
for young people by young people.
Every month
the global parkour population is growing by approximately
10% and having safe places to train and teach parkour
is absolutely crucial. Its great to see venues
like Woking Leisure getting behind the workshops and
the young people in the region.

Because the workshops attracted so many students 12
and under, special attention was focussed on safe and
technique.

In
conclusion
the
WOKING II workshop was an greater success than WOKING
I and we're now looking forward to making WOKING III
even better.
