AS
MANY NOW KNOW, FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS KERBIE HAS BEEN
TOUGHING IT OUT IN THE BAHAMAS WORKING ON THE NEW BOND
MOVIE. HE'S JUST ABOUT TO HEAD FOR HOME, BUT MANAGED
TO SEND A FEW WORDS ABOUT HIS TRIP.
Me and Curtis left our homes on the 23rd of January
to work in the stunt team on James Bond 21.
So far this trip has exceeded all of the expectations
that we both had of the Bond world.
We were told that the production company would arrange
taxis to pick Curtis and myself up from our homes. They
didnt tell us that they would send Mercs to pick us
up.
We met at the airport and were told that we wouldnt
be sitting next to each other on the plane. We were
speaking with the assistant at the booth and she said
she could sort it out. We went into the business lounge
for our free food and drinks.
Curtis and I had never flown first class before, so
it was a shock to the squares in suits to see two young
guys jumping up and down and getting more excited than
a hyperactive nephew at christmas.
13 hours later, we hit the Baha. It was 1am so we didnt
really get to see anything, just straight to bed and
get some sleep before we had to start work in 6 hours
time.
The first month of training was mental. We spent about
14 hours a day on location prepping stunts, choreographing
movements and making tea for the boss. We were along
some of the most notorious stunt men on the register,
lead by Gary "I could break your legs just by looking
at you" Powell.
Check out: www.garypowellstunts.com to get a bonor over
how awesome he is.
Lee
Morrison was a life saver on the job. At 31 he's one
of the best motobike riders in the world, and just as
immature as me and Curtis. When things would get hard,
he would be there to make us
piss ourselves laughing, from trying to order chinese
food in an indian restaurant, to pranking the not-so-innocent
special effects guys.
On set we also met members of zanshin south; Kasper,
Cien, Alexus, Lee, Dee, Omar and Malcolm, native free
runners, gymnasts and tricksters.

These
guys blew us away. They are more talented and original
than anyone I have ever met. Whilst only getting 10
days off in ten weeks, it was pretty hard to train with
the guys so it was usually the odd tricking session
down the beach. These guys have been tricking all of
their lives so after seeing Jump London on the discovery
channel, it would have been against the laws of the
universe for them not to start.
The guys train together and some arent even aware of
any of the politics or happenings in the world of parkour.
But they knew who seb was.
Seeing Sebastian again was great for my mind. At the
moment I've been thinking about what parkour really
is to me and is it more than just getting from A to
B.....blahblahblah. Speaking with Seb and hearing him
discuss philosophies and theories that he carries around
in a little note book has really opened my eyes.
We've come to the conclusion that parkour is like those
annoying numbers from lost. It has controlled the fate
of many free runners and lead to a few curses here and
there. We've also discussed the future of parkour, and
how we can make a positive future for everyone.
From the ideas that were thrown into the think tank,
the future is looking great. I cant really type the
teachings of seb down, it wont do them justice, but
if anyone see's me out training and wants to know more,
come and ask (and prepare for a couple of hours of discussion).
I cant really say much about the movie as i have signed
contracts and shit, but i can say that Daniel Craig
is a top bollocks guys. He invited the stunt guys to
a beach party for his birthday, they had a pig on a
spit roast, never seen one of them before. I think he's
what the bond machine need in the new bond movie.
He's got what it takes.
Right thats all I'm allowed to say before Eon Productions
hire some ninja-lawyers to come and legally rape me.
So I guess that when the movie comes out, I'll be putting
a big article full of pictures in the mag.
Next stop in the Kerbie world tour...Lisses.
